Exchanging the good for the best

Exchanging the good for the best

Do you thrive on being being busy? Do you go through life at a break-neck speed? Does the concept of ‘enough time’ seem elusive? It’s probably time to slow down and get alone with God.

Busyness is one of Satan’s favorite tools to use against us. It’s not unusual to go wide open from the time our feet hit the floor. If you’re anything like me, your first thought when you open your eyes is your to do list. Are our never ending to-do lists getting in the way of our time alone with the Lord?

Unfortunately, we often allow the busyness of our lives to wedge God out. I know I’m incredibly guilty of this.

This morning I woke up super late but knew I absolutely could not go another day with out spending time in God’s word and being alone with the Lord. I’ve been running wide open for the past several days, stopping only to sleep.

Truth be told, I love being busy. I thrive on getting things done. I love my job. I love my sign business. I love a clean house. I love my other side job. But here’s the thing y’all…the busier I get, the more likely I am to allow being busy to put God on the back burner.

I got to thinking about how we chase after what is good but neglect what is best. GOOD will never be good enough unless what is BEST comes first.

I was beyond exhausted when I went to bed last night. I left dirty dishes in the sink. I really don’t like to do this. There was a time when this didn’t bother me but now I hate dirty dishes. Like I said before, I over slept really bad this morning but when I got up, I went upstairs and ran a sink full of dish water thinking I couldn’t focus with dirty dishes. I felt convicted right then and there. I knew if I kept going, I would not stop and spend time with God today.

I went to the couch, got the things I like to have handy for my study and I got alone with God. It’s 1:30 now. I’m just now on my way to Lowe’s. I’ve still got to go to work. I’ve got 15 signs to finish tonight. The dishes are still dirty. But you know what? Sometimes we need to just breathe….

Lay down what’s good to find what’s best.

This song has been on my mind all morning.

Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor
It’s off to the races everybody out the door
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life

Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can

Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life

It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day

When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say just

Breathe, just breathe

Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe

Third cup of joe just to get me through the day

Want to make the most of time but I feel it slip away
I wonder if there’s something more to this crazy life

I’m busy, busy, busy, and it’s no surprise to see

That I only have time for me, me, me
There’s gotta be something more to this crazy life

I’m hanging on tight to another wild day

When it starts to fall apart in my heart I hear you say just

Breathe, just breathe

Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to take it in, fill your lungs
The peace of God that overcomes

Just breathe (just breathe)

let your weary spirit rest
Lay down what’s good and find what’s best

Just breathe (just breathe)

Just breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe
Just breathe
